2018 Calendar Photo Contest

,

2018 Calendar Photo Contest

RayBiotech invites amateur and professional photographers alike to enter its 2018 Calendar Photo Contest. You must read the following rules, terms and legal conditions before submitting any photos!

Click here to read the legal conditions.

The RayBiotech 2018 Calendar Photo Contest (the “Contest”) is open to ALL photographers at least 18 years of age. The contest is open to all participants regardless of residence or citizenship, so long as the laws of their jurisdiction allow participation.

View The Winners Of Last Year’s Contest!

What To Enter

We are looking for striking images of spotted patterns that commemorate the antibody arrays which RayBiotech was founded around. Images can include scientific images, portraits of animals (such as the spotted eagle ray pictured here), plants, minerals, landscapes or any other images striking enough to catch our attention.

If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to RayBiotech upon request. Entrants must not submit images that involve human nudity, the willful harassment of wildlife, damage to the environment by the photographer, put any individual or animal in danger, or infringe on the rights of any other photographer or person.

All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appeared. Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (removal of dust, cropping, reasonable adjustments to exposure, color and contrast, etc.) will be disqualified. Multiple exposures that have been combined to produce a single “High Dynamic Range” image are acceptable. Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the judging panel’s sole discretion.

Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s). Please clearly label animals in digital caption information to assist judges.

How To Enter

All images must be submitted electronically as an attachment to an email sent to info@raybiotech.com with subject line of “ENTRY: RayBiotech 2018 Calendar Photo Contest”

Initial submissions may be submitted in any standard image format (i.e., JPG, GIF, PNG or TIF) and should be no larger than 8 MB in size but of sufficient resolution to judge the quality of the photo. Each email entry must include the photographer’s name, age, email address and a photo description. In the description, please clearly identify any animals, people, plants or inanimate objects depicted in the image.

Photo descriptions must accompany all submissions and should include information about the subject(s) of the image (e.g., my dog, “Spot”), the general location where the image was taken, including city, state/province, and country (e.g., in my Manhattan apartment, New York, NY, USA), and the type and resolution of camera used (e.g. iPhone 4, 5 megapixels).

In addition, all entrants may be asked to provide, upon request and within a reasonable timeframe, an image identical to the initial submission, but at high resolution (≥5 megapixels). Resolution can be calculated by multiplying the width of the image (in pixels) by its height (in pixels). For example, a photograph taken with a 5-megapixel camera set for the highest resolution and best quality produces images at 2560 pixels by 1920 pixels (2560 x 1920 ≈ 5 million pixels).

If the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide a high-resolution image that will meet this standard, the original submission can still be judged (at the judges’ sole discretion) but may not be considered as a finalist in the competition.

Eligibility and Judging

Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically. Previously published material for which non-exclusive rights were granted may be entered as long as you still maintain the right to grant us a license (see “Your Rights” below). You must be able to disclose when and where the photo appeared previously to RayBiotech upon request.

Submissions may be watermarked if desired, but the watermark should be inconspicuous enough to not interfere with the judging of the photo. If the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide a pristine, watermark-free version of the image when asked, the watermarked photo might not be honored by the competition (at the judges sole discretion).

Images will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. The judges will consist of a panel of RayBiotech staff members who are familiar with photography and who will be solely responsible for selecting images for various RayBiotech printed and online promotional materials.

RayBiotech shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.

Deadlines

Online entries can be uploaded starting 9:01 am Pacific Daylight Time on Feburary 1, 2017. Deadline for submitting entries is 11:59 am Pacific Daylight Time on May 31, 2017.

Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as a paragraph about their photo, the highest resolution version of their photo, or a watermark-free version of their photo) anytime on or after June 30, 2017. After an initial review the photos will be posted on RayBiotech’s facebook page. Entrants can submit multiple entries, but each photo entry will be judged separately and on its own merits.

Public voting will be taken into consideration in selecting winners, but the final selection of winners will be the sole right of RayBiotech. Public voting for winners will be possible by “liking” or commenting on the photos posted to RayBiotech’s facebook page. Public voting may entail individuals voting for more than one photo, but voting will be limited to one vote per person per photo.

Up to 12 final winners will be announced in June 2017.

RayBiotech reserves the right to adjust any deadline(s) as the result of causes beyond its immediate control.

Winning Photos

The winners’ photos will be printed as feature photos in the 2018 RayBiotech Photo Calendar. All entrants featured in the calendar will receive a copy of the calendar

Your Rights

You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit — including ownership if applicable. You will grant RayBiotech a license (in the spirit of the Creative Commons Attribution License)to use your photograph as described below. Per the conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution License, RayBiotech shall credit all depictions of the licensed photograph with the caption “© Person’s Name” when the full name is available (or pseudonym, upon request of the entrant).

By submitting your photograph to this competition, you will, in effect, grant to RayBiotech a royalty-free, non-sublicensable, nonexclusive, irrevocable license in perpetuity, to:

  1. Publish the photograph on the Internet.
  2. Use the photograph in RayBiotech’s electronic and printed communications.
  3. Provide your photograph to other organizations for RayBiotech-related use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, web pages, and the like.
  4. Use, in connection with the Photo Contest, your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
  5. Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms.

“Reddish” competition – 100 photos, 100 photographers contest in a crowd funding platform

Participate and read all bout it here

Have you ever think about publishing your photos? Send us your best shots. If they’re good enough, we’ll publish them in a share book.

About this project

There are many good photographers around the world whose photos never have a chance to be presented to the public. The most they may have is some pages on the Internet.

Ways you can participate:

There are two main ways you can participate in this project:
As a supporter:

● You can support the campaign and pledge to buy the postal card or the electronic version of the book. If you do any of these things, we’d be extremely grateful.

● If you know any photographer who might be interested in participating in this project, please let him/her know.

● Last, but not the least, is to spread the word via social media or just word of mouth – it would be massively appreciated!

What do I get as a top 100 photographer?

We will assign two full sheets (8.5×11″ each) of the book to all 100 selected photographers. Generally, your portrait and autobiography will get published on one page, and your selected photo on the other page, just like the this sample. The design of each page might be a little different, based on the size of your autobiography and design concerns.

What is the photo’s specification?

We highly recommend that you send your picture in 8.5 x 11 ratio (portrait or landscape). A high resolution photo is mandatory. Smaller dimension images should have at least a 2000 pixel resolution. All photos should be in JPEG format.

http://www.sec4p.com/calls/

Calls for Entry

Current and upcoming calls for entry.

Typically 35-40 images are selected to hang in the gallery.

A note about our jurors and curators. Yes, we want to hang your work in the gallery and hopefully sell it to a collector. But juried shows are also about exposure. We work with the leaders in contemporary photography, the respected gallerists, publishers and photographers whom you want viewing your images. These are the individuals that can further your career. Move you from an enthusiast to becoming a photographer, from an emerging to a mid career artist.

The fine art nude has been a celebrated subject of photography since the beginning and played an important role in establishing photography as a fine art medium. Early on, both in history and most photographers experience, the nude has been featured in a classical pose and setting, maturing to illustrating the human body as a sculptural abstraction, and with some pushing boundaries.

With the 21st century flooding us, the photographer and the viewer, with images of the nude in every form of media, it has become more difficult for the fine art nude photographer to make a statement. The SE Center is looking for photographers who can make a statement. Stop us in our tracks and make us see more in the image.

Entering Your Images You can enter your images online at www.SmarterEntry.com For best results, make sure your image is 1200 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side, Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Please name your files: Nude.Last Name_First Initial.Image#.jpg (Examples: Nude.Smith_J.Image1.jpg, Nude.Jones_R.Image3.jpg) If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please contact info@sec4p.com or call 864.605.7400

Eligibility All photographers may enter where legal to do so. Please assure you proper Model Releases on file.

Fees $35 for up to 5 Images, $6 for each additional image up to 10.

Juror Our juror for the Contemporary Nude is Mona Kuhn. Mona Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, and in 1989, moved to the US and received her US Citizenship. Kuhn earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles.

Kuhn is best known for her large-scale, dream-like photographs of the human form. Her work often reference classical themes with a light and insightful touch. Kuhn’s approach to her photography is unusual in that she usually develops close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable naturalness and intimacy, and creating the effect of people naked but comfortable in their own skin.

Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debut by Steidl in 2004; immediately followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), and Private (2014). Mona’s upcoming book is scheduled for Spring 2017 release. The monographs are distributed by Steidl and DAP mainly in Europe, the US and Asia.

Exhibition Details 35-40 Selected images will hang in the SE Center’s main gallery space for approximately one month with the opportunity to be invited for a solo show at a later date. Openings are timed to coincide with the Village of West Greenville, Greenville, South Carolina’s textile mill village turned arts district, First Fridays, a celebration of art, food and music. Participating artists that can attend have the opportunity for a Portfolio Review by SE Center Director Michael Pannier on the following Saturday morning (reservations needed).

Selected images must be matted and framed up to 20×24” to professional standards, white mat with simple black metal or wood frame unless prior approval has been obtained. The Center reserves the right to reject any piece not framed to our standards. To avoid shipping costs & headaches, the SE Center for Photography will print your photographs for you upon acceptance. For $15 per image, we’ll print on archival paper and after the show either return the print to you ($15 additional for shipping) or you may choose to donate the image to the Center’s flat file for future access to collectors.

The SE Center for Photography will mat & frame your images at no charge, using our selection of 11×14, 16×20 and 20×24 black, metal frames with white, archival mats and conservation clear glass for the exhibitions assuming it will fit one of our standard mats.

Sales The SE Center encourages sales during exhibitions and retains a 40% commission on work sold. The artist receives 60% of the sale price. If a print is sold it will be ordered from the photographer at the time of sale.

Copyright Artist retains all copyrights to their own images. Artists whose work is chosen for exhibition inclusion grant the SE Center for Photography permission to use images for promoting the exhibition, artist, or SE Center and its programs, and current and past exhibitions. Images may be placed on social media for promotion and features. Artists grant usage as stated without further compensation.

Lodging/Transportation The SE Center does not provide lodging or transportation for artists participating in an exhibition. The SE Center is 16 miles from GSP International Airport and we can provide suggested lodging options in the area.
