THE CONTEMPORARY NUDE PROSPECTUS, photo submission for open contest

http://www.sec4p.com/calls/

Calls for Entry

Current and upcoming calls for entry.

Typically 35-40 images are selected to hang in the gallery.

A note about our jurors and curators. Yes, we want to hang your work in the gallery and hopefully sell it to a collector. But juried shows are also about exposure. We work with the leaders in contemporary photography, the respected gallerists, publishers and photographers whom you want viewing your images. These are the individuals that can further your career. Move you from an enthusiast to becoming a photographer, from an emerging to a mid career artist.

The fine art nude has been a celebrated subject of photography since the beginning and played an important role in establishing photography as a fine art medium. Early on, both in history and most photographers experience, the nude has been featured in a classical pose and setting, maturing to illustrating the human body as a sculptural abstraction, and with some pushing boundaries.

With the 21st century flooding us, the photographer and the viewer, with images of the nude in every form of media, it has become more difficult for the fine art nude photographer to make a statement. The SE Center is looking for photographers who can make a statement. Stop us in our tracks and make us see more in the image.

Entering Your Images You can enter your images online at www.SmarterEntry.com For best results, make sure your image is 1200 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side, Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Please name your files: Nude.Last Name_First Initial.Image#.jpg (Examples: Nude.Smith_J.Image1.jpg, Nude.Jones_R.Image3.jpg) If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please contact info@sec4p.com or call 864.605.7400

Eligibility All photographers may enter where legal to do so. Please assure you proper Model Releases on file.

Fees $35 for up to 5 Images, $6 for each additional image up to 10.

Juror Our juror for the Contemporary Nude is Mona Kuhn. Mona Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, and in 1989, moved to the US and received her US Citizenship. Kuhn earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles.

Kuhn is best known for her large-scale, dream-like photographs of the human form. Her work often reference classical themes with a light and insightful touch. Kuhn’s approach to her photography is unusual in that she usually develops close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable naturalness and intimacy, and creating the effect of people naked but comfortable in their own skin.

Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debut by Steidl in 2004; immediately followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), and Private (2014). Mona’s upcoming book is scheduled for Spring 2017 release. The monographs are distributed by Steidl and DAP mainly in Europe, the US and Asia.

Exhibition Details 35-40 Selected images will hang in the SE Center’s main gallery space for approximately one month with the opportunity to be invited for a solo show at a later date. Openings are timed to coincide with the Village of West Greenville, Greenville, South Carolina’s textile mill village turned arts district, First Fridays, a celebration of art, food and music. Participating artists that can attend have the opportunity for a Portfolio Review by SE Center Director Michael Pannier on the following Saturday morning (reservations needed).

Selected images must be matted and framed up to 20×24” to professional standards, white mat with simple black metal or wood frame unless prior approval has been obtained. The Center reserves the right to reject any piece not framed to our standards. To avoid shipping costs & headaches, the SE Center for Photography will print your photographs for you upon acceptance. For $15 per image, we’ll print on archival paper and after the show either return the print to you ($15 additional for shipping) or you may choose to donate the image to the Center’s flat file for future access to collectors.

The SE Center for Photography will mat & frame your images at no charge, using our selection of 11×14, 16×20 and 20×24 black, metal frames with white, archival mats and conservation clear glass for the exhibitions assuming it will fit one of our standard mats.

Sales The SE Center encourages sales during exhibitions and retains a 40% commission on work sold. The artist receives 60% of the sale price. If a print is sold it will be ordered from the photographer at the time of sale.

Copyright Artist retains all copyrights to their own images. Artists whose work is chosen for exhibition inclusion grant the SE Center for Photography permission to use images for promoting the exhibition, artist, or SE Center and its programs, and current and past exhibitions. Images may be placed on social media for promotion and features. Artists grant usage as stated without further compensation.

Reflections is the theme for this months competition.

From endless materials and objects around us, glass water, rivers or drifting tides reflections have long been a wonderful part of many magnificent images in photography. What really seems to set them apart always seems to be a step away from the traditional rules as though them seem to take on a personal introspective perspective while being framed up.

Show us your best frames of Reflections!
